In 2017 the Washingtonian Magazines showcased this property and this multiyear project received a2017 Washingtonian Residential Design Award, “The Old Meets New in Kalorama.” Koppers Fabricators,Inc. worked closely with the property owners, contractor, and design team to achieve a very modern and fresh look for this traditional DC row house. For this project, temporary shoring consisted of beams and columns to support the 1stand 2ndfloors until the permanent structural steel was installed. Once the project got further along, Koppers Fabricators, Inc. installed a rear “floating style staircase and railings. On the exterior of the home Koppers Fabricators, Inc. worked with the design team and owners to create a stainless-steel support system for the deck and the deck planter boxes. We also fabricated and installed galvanized tube steel frames for the privacy wall that was later covered with wood slats. The modern look of the mesh deck railing not only added a modern feel to the entertaining area, it also made it safe. The front of the home received a more traditional feel with a set of entry gates that matched the stair handrails and front fencing.
